My point is that it’s ability to jump the species barrier makes it incredibly dangerous. We shouldn’t be lax about prevention just because it’s rare. The goal is to keep it rare.

The only reason rabies is rare now is because the widespread effort to vaccinate not just domestic animals but wildlife as well. But all it takes is negligence for the disease to make a comeback.

Doesn’t matter. Rabies can infect any mammal. A bat bite so small you don’t even notice it can be a death sentence for a cat, a dog, a human, ect. The only option is vaccination before or immediately after exposure before symptoms appear. As soon as symptoms appear a miserable death is inevitable.
