The City of Twin Suns

A dark city sits in darkness. Motes of light and darkness bubble into respectively bright and dark suns. Underneath the city, a stained-glass design shows tunnels reaching below ground. "The City of Twin Suns was once said to have been the best protected city in the world. When the entire region fell to the encroaching darkness, however, it was lost like so many others. Now it exists as a refuge for the outcast and exiled - those compelled enough to brave it's harsh environ. The City is named after the phenomon of its two intertwined suns - one of cold light and one of warmth and darkness - and is governed by season whereso the sun absorb the magics left in the soil and grow until they consume each other, leaving the city cast in a season of darkness until the suns are reborn and continue the cycle. During the latter season, the surface becomes particularly inhospitable, during the denizens into the tunnels underground, which seem to have existed as long as the city above and with no common understanding of how far down they stretch."

The Tree of Dreams
An enormous tree trunk curves into the sky. At the top of the tree sits a warm evening sun. Cities speckled the trunk, basking in the evening light. "Philgamon the Scholar dreamed of seeing a new sun in the sky. When she discovered a method of creating a stable star, she partnered with the druids of the deep forest to enchant a tree that would carry the infant sun into the sky. She knew the attempt would draw the ire of many but didn't predict it would also draw such support. As the tree continues to grow, encampments of believers began to take root - eventually growing into cities. When the ultimatum came and her enemies finally threatened the tree itself, Philgamon chose to put her dream to rest rather than allow those who follow her to be brought to harm. She left behind a sun that would never reach the sky - its light casting a soft evening glow - and cities of followers, who still believe in the day she will return to finish such a dream."

The City of the Sun
A city in the shape of a tulip bulb sits atop a colossal spire amid dark mountains with a bright sun shining light on it from above "When the Sun began to grow dim, the Order of Light brought it low and built a city reaching into the sky to meet it. At the time, the Order believed this would be the last city ever built and designed it as the Sun's final resting place, where the people could bask in its light for generations."

Indanthrone

This pigment started appearing in artist palettes in the 1950s, and was created to imitate indigo. It’s often used to paint the night sky.

I started this piece before the pandemic, and it’s been with me as a WIP through burnout, broken computers and depression. It compelled me though.

Some assets from a game I co-created, Moonphase Pass (available on Steam) - a roguelite, worker placement game where you try to survive to the end by using your workers to power various stations to fend off enemies
