Jane Goodall: The Golden Rule is our universal moral code.

They talk a lot about fascism in this book and she mentions how much she hated the Nazis. In the same breath, they talk about how important altruism is and how we can understand how oppressors become who they are and working through that problem allows us to find a path to reconciliation.
museinrevolt.bsky.social
when we confront narcissists head on, they feed on the conflict and escalate to stay in control. fascists do the same at a national scale: they need opposition energy to justify repression and to rally followers.

our best tactic is to use de-escalation and boundaries. stop playing their game

de-escalation techniques
Make your negotiation work.
Listen
Listening is one of the most effective methods of deescalation. Regardless of the issue at hand, most people just want to be heard. You'll be surprised how far the act of listening can take you in your negotiaion.

Eye Contact
It's difficult to remain angry with someone when they're looking you in the eye. Maintaining eye contact reminds us that we are all just people. This technique often leads to softening on both sides.

Avoid Name Calling
Name calling arouses emotion in the listener, making it hard for each parties to remain logical and stick to the issues. You'll find it easier to make your point if you avoid inflaming emotions.

Avoid Ancient History
Avoid bringing up unnecessary events from the past. Stick to the facts needed to resolve your issue.

Body Language
Eyerolling, exasperated sighs, and closed body language have a negative effect on negotiations. Keep an open posture, and be mindful of your facial expressions.

Make Space
Ego in the enemy of fruitful negotiation. Think creatively about how you can make space for the other party to make a concession without making them feel like they are a "bad person" or "losing."

unfortunately people are too angry and stubborn to accept a handshake. we need a mediator.
museinrevolt.bsky.social
they really backed themselves into a corner, didn't they
museinrevolt.bsky.social
to be fair, fascists are mostly forgettable

I think we could satisfy them with very specific circumstances 😉

TIL Jane Goodall named the first chimp she met David Greybeard 🥺
A picture of Jane Goodall at camp with David Greybeard the chimpanzee.
"When Jane Goodall first witnessed Gombe chimpanzee David Greybeard fishing for termites by manipulating blades of grass in 1960, the line between humans and other animals suddenly became blurry. Tool use was no longer uniquely human, leading Dr. Louis Leakey, Jane’s mentor, to famously say, 'Now we must redefine tool, redefine man, or accept chimpanzees as human.'"

The Dude has spoken:

"ICE? Let's get ICE off our streets and into our beverages. This aggression will not stand. Let's just abide together"

The Oregon National Guard general says if they were to be deployed, they would be instructed under his leadership to protect the protesters and not ICE

"The bars stopped bumping, the rock stopped rolling
The middlе fingers rising, and it won't stop showing
Got some bad news
Thе fading of the red, white and blue"
