Random music tracks from Australian and New Zealand that the rest of the world should hear.

So after compiling a long playlist of great songs from Australia (my home country) and New Zealand over the holidays, I thought I'd create an account to post bangers that people around the world might not have heard, but would enjoy.

Split Enz, 'Message to My Girl'.

Before he hit it big worldwide with his band Crowded House, songwriter extraordinaire Neil Finn was in a band with his brother Tim: Split Enz.

'Message to My Girl', recorded in 1983, is just one more example of Neil Finn's brilliant talent.

Chris Wilson, 'You Will Surely Love Again".

If Chris Wilson's voice doesn't knock you over with its raw power, then his harmonica will finish the job. A national treasure that many Australians never realised they had - Chris died too early in 2019, at age 62.

Gotye, 'Hearts a Mess'.

5 years before the world learned of him through the worldwide smash 'Somebody That I Used to Know', Australia already embraced Gotye through this beautiful song.

I stan the raw emotion that comes through in the chorus lyric "desperate to connect". 🖤

Mansionair, 'Alibi'

Mansionair are an electronic music trio that integrate elements of live rock instruments. 'Alibi' is a brilliant, atmospheric tune with mellotron bass and lead along with guitar and live drums.

One of those songs that could/should have been huge.

Cold Chisel, 'Bow River'.

In Australia, Cold Chisel hold the same 'legendary' status as AC/DC, INXS & Midnight Oil.

Virtuoso guitarist Ian Moss would be lead singer in any other band but for Jimmy Barnes' insane vocals. He takes lead on this one, until Jimmy brings it home.

Thelma Plum, 'Better in Blak'.

Thelma is a Gamilaraay woman, and 'Better in Blak' is written about "her experiences with people trying to take the colour from the conversation. My colour is an important part of who I am."

A great song about taking pride in being Indigenous.

Ball Park Music - 'Cherub'.

Heyo, two posts and two Brisbane bands!

Sam Cromack is a song-writing genius, Jen Boyce (usually) on bass and angelic harmonies, & identical twins Dean and Dan Hanson plus Paul Furness provide perfect parts (guitar/drums and keys respectively). 🖤

Custard, 'Apartment'.

Custard are a band from my home city (Brisbane) who had a bunch of indie pop-rock hits in the '90s. 'Apartment' slaps hard!

Nowadays the lead singer, Dave McCormack, is more famous for being the voice of Bandit in the worldwide kids cartoon show 'Bluey'!
