I was definitely in the market for a year ago. After some pretty extensive research on the models available I ended up getting a 50cc Moped. The battery issues were such that I couldn't risk my home and family for the sake of being a early adopter of technology.

I can't speak for European electric bicycles. In the US we have plenty of cheap Chinese electric bikes and they have some shady battery manufacturers.

They need better battery technology that is not such a fire hazard. That is an issue that is being completely overlooked.
