On this site, I would like to be a bit taller.
I am impressed with the narrative that they have to “work hard,” which I do not take as a given. they just have to tell the truth. I guess that could constitute hard work.

Not that it matters, but in the event that he actually reads this, you're really just setting the stage for them 1) give him a special lifetime achievement award 2) rename the statue after him.

I wonder what's making him worry about this particular hypothetical?

It’s a good time to check in again on what John Yoo thinks the president is allowed to do in the name of national security. Just to see how much he was relying on norms that are no longer being respected.

yeah but I still do fly out of the airport. there is zero chance - none - that I will set foot in the Kennedy Center while his name is on it.

it’s a mystery to me why that is
permitted by the league or accepted by the players.

they should try turning him off and then back on again.

I would expect China, Europe, Russia and Jeff Bezos to all insist on having constellations comparable to Starlink.

is there anyone left who knows how to apologize properly?
December 18, 2025 at 10:51 PM
Yeah typically Pre-check involves providing extra info up front for some relaxed screening procedures. Taking Amex cardholders out of the regular line and putting the directly in Clear -- which jumps the Pre-check queue -- really gives the game away. It's about money and status, not security.

So I would say, he's absolutely right.
December 18, 2025 at 2:43 PM
Last time I was at JFK I was waiting in the TSA Precheck line and it was roughly the same length as the other line. Meanwhile, the Clear guys were signing people up on the spot out of the regular line based on nothing but having an Amex card.

Tell me you've never spent ten years sailing around the Mediterranean without telling me you've never spent ten years sailing around the Mediterranean.
December 16, 2025 at 8:35 PM
"would have been" lol. Like, under what circumstances?
December 16, 2025 at 8:30 PM
There's no compelling reason for a device like this to store any information outside your own possession. The reason is the company wants your data.

“nothing but thoughts and prayers” so true.

Logan Circle, DC. There's just the garage. I've left cars parked on the street for scale.

I'm supposed to do an airport Par Course in wingtips and a flannel suit. Got it.

I have to say that when you're overweight and wearing too many layers, no coat in the world is less comfortable than a Barbour Beaufort. I cannot imagine how he manages to keep this on indoors.
December 12, 2025 at 4:44 PM
Yes it does indeed seem inconceivable.
December 8, 2025 at 4:11 PM
I said it might be a better case, not that it’s a good case. The problem of distracted driving is IMO a problem of irresponsible behavior, it goes way beyond Uber drivers and way beyond cell phone usage.
December 6, 2025 at 12:01 AM
I don't believe in a critical mass of people who are both careless enough to drive & text, and careful enough to take a cab instead. A better case to me would be replacing careless *uber drivers* with driverless cars.
December 5, 2025 at 7:24 PM
It's not one mentioned in the post I was replying to. But also, city dwellers, including those with disabilities, generally already have more transit options than the non-urban. The goal of driverless cars is to compete with other services in places where the market is already being served.
December 5, 2025 at 7:06 PM
sorry but I think the use cases of “drunk city dweller who has no option but to drive themselves home” and “city dweller who just wants to text but is forced to drive themselves across town” are a) kind of edge cases and b) hard to blame on skeptics of the technology.
