I did text in late so relevant person is aware. But can't face walking in late. And don't know where I'm supposed to be. And can't ask (for various reasons related to my brain being my brain). So I'm stuck.

And convincing yourself that a marginalised minority is actually some powerful entity out to control things and endanger people... and not just human beings who have very little power (like the rest of us mere peasants) and just want to live their lives in dignity and peace.

Textbook stuff, but it appeals to human nature so even intelligent and otherwise reasonable people can fall for it. 'Us vs them', rage bait, having someone to blame, and by attacking a fairly powerless and stigmatised group feeling powerful yourself and like you're doing something worthwhile.

Struck me fairly recently after seeing transphobic conspiracy theorist type nonsense that almost the exact same rhetoric is used by antisemites. It's all the same justification of hatred towards ppl they don't understand. Turn The Other into a (manufactured) threat and validate your own hate/fear.

I'm clearly going to be thinking (and feeling) about this film for a while!

For misfits and outcasts in particular, I think stories of monsters (and also robots) exaggerate but make sense of our self-perception. Frankenstein speaks to the human pain of loss, the fear of not being enough, the ache of not belonging, the desperate need to understand others and be understood.

You are. You're kind, you're talented, you're interesting. People might not always recognise or value it enough, but that doesn't mean you don't have lots to offer. Not that you need to put your many positive attributes to a practical/measurable use in order to be worthwhile, of course.

Look, ppl, if you scoot a little & I scoot a little we can work together to make walking down the street less shit. Instead of refusing to move at all or not bothering to look where you're going. (I also didn't take my ADHD meds today so I felt like I was literally going to expire from frustration.)

Braving Selfridges itself to check out the Frankenstein merch was horrendous. It was too hot, too busy, difficult to find the merch, and the merch was ridiculously expensive (£85 for a t-shirt!). Braving the streets to get to the art show was also pretty horrendous.
