I think the leftist equivalent to the right wing reactionary “tea party” that started a groundswell of purity tests for them could be The Golden Rule party. It really is the root of our ideology in being pro-rights and pro-people.

We use chess metaphors for politics a lot and I’d like to add this one: that Republican voters want to be able to move their king into checkmate and declare themselves the winner and demand that you acknowledge it. If you say they lost they will throw the board so you have a choice.
