I teach college. I also think about the eagles too much.

I wish, but there is literally no one else on a aff who would be better (by design, it seems).
November 28, 2025 at 9:27 PM
dear prof,

this seems bad. Is it? Also, when an offense is faltering, is there some person in charge of the offense to whom we can attribute responsibility and, then, act accordingly, if need be?
For instance, in the NFL are there people assigned to be in charge of one side of the ball?

googles “scot loeffler”. Is that a real person?
November 24, 2025 at 4:57 PM
this seems absolutely right, but there is like zero chance they do this right? also (serious question), who could it be on staff (I have no idea)?
November 24, 2025 at 4:55 PM
totally agree. wrote way too long of a thread from a philosophical POV on it

Gonna this into the void for other #eagles fans:

Kevin Patullo seems smart(ish), can design some decent plays, and with enough time to think, can put together an excellent plan.

These are all signs of being an intermediate learner -even a promising one! - in an expert field. 1/5

So, the whole point of this thread is to reiterate (but give some backing in the philosophy of mind, Phenomenology, and studies of expertise) to say Kevin is not up to the job. It’s plain to see he cannot adapt to novel situations. That’s bad in the NFL! 5/5
November 24, 2025 at 2:13 AM
What’s my point, Kevin is not up tot he level of expertise needed to be an NFL OC. What he’ll need are a lot of reps and a lot of times to make mistakes in the moment to get better. That’s how you get fluent. That ain’t the NFL! 4/5
November 24, 2025 at 2:13 AM
What you are not is an expert or fluent.

What defines expertise is the ability to react and improvise in all sorts of novel situations in ways that do not seem rule bound (that’s why you cannot plan for them). Being an intermediate sucks because you know you are f’in up in these situations. 3/5
November 24, 2025 at 2:13 AM
If you’ve ever attempted to speak a language at this level where others are fluent, you’ll notice in controlled situations and with enough planning you can get by. Same thing if you’ve tried to learn an instrument and play with other musicians. 2/5

kill the man with the ball, but that was Levittown; so, I don’t think any of us were smart enough to come up with a rhyming name

I remember you all saying Patullo talked about simplifying the offense in the summer. My ears perked up because that’s what siranni said in 2023 (and reiterated at the end of that season). This sure looks like the end 2023 O (2 tight ends, simple pass concepts) when Siranni stepped in

2023 obvs, not 2024

I really appreciate this - every word of it - as my wife also has a rare, incurable cancer. You’ve put beautifully what much of it is like. So, I hope you know in writing this you’ve done a mitzvah and helped others too. keep running.

Too far...I still have my indie cred!

i’ve tried not to be reply guy - like, at all - on here. but from the POV of a basic, bougie middle-aged dad (thats me) - the rising price of video games (for the kids), and coffee and guitars (for me) is just starting to piss me off to no end. like the two dolls for xmas shit is about to be real

My favorite thing about teaching American Political Thought via this amazing simulation by Patrick Coby is how often students come to say something to just this effect. Highly recommend, especially, if you have nerdy enough friends to get together and play it
