St. Thomas Aquinas argued that poets and philosophers “are alike in being big with wonder.” Lucille Clifton remarked that “poems come out of wonder, not out of knowing.”

Part of what drives us to the page as poets is the pleasure of capturing in language what seems bent on eluding it.

It seems that the only relief I can find from the current political nightmare is to post rude songs from #18thc children's books & let my Bluesky friends make the applications as they choose.
Not just sure this one, also from Tommy Thumb's Pretty Songbook, will get past the moderators, but I'll try:
Two young girls in 18th c dress pointing jeeringly at a young boy, singing a song about incontinence.

On the topic of digital mags and hearing poets read their own work, did you know @BathMagg's @MWhelanWriter was part of the inaugural wave of @iambapoet back in February 2020? You can check out her contribution here.

Eight years on, we remember. St Ann’s Square became a sea of flowers. Mariah Whelan / @mwhelanwrites.bsky.social walks the edges of grief and remembrance, where language falters and petals speak.

Text overlaid on a blurred background of thousands of floral tributes in St Ann’s Square, Manchester. The quote reads: 'There were white roses heaped on the steps and daisies dripping from the fountain, sunflowers spilling over the stone slabs. There were more flowers than people.' — Mariah Whelan.

Graphic of the Poetry By Heart 14+ timeline with poet images. As well as being able to filter the 14+ timeline by your exam board and cluster, we also have thematic tags. These tags cover topics like, ‘Eco-poems’, ‘Migration’ and ask big questions that young people care about like ‘Who am I?’. Filtering by these topics is a great way to source a mini collection of linked-poems where your students can practise their unseen poetry skills.

Got a spare moment on your lunch break? What better way to spend it than by telling the Government to respect the rights of creators.

Submit a response to their AI and copyright consultation. It doesn't need to take long. Guidance below 👇

The Government recently launched a consultation on AI and copyright. Now is the time to have your say and make sure that legislators hear the concerns of creators.
