And fwiw, I deeply love compassionate/critical sci-fi - and strive to write it myself sometimes - but the genre has absolutely carried forward Colonizer fantasies and violence too. I agree that Musk and all are misreading the genre, but I wish it was more inherently abrasive to being misread.

feel this in my bones ooof. I think it’s connected to the nihilistic boredom at the heart of the uberrich - they are so disassociated from real, meaningful conflicts stakes that they need an Existential AI Risk or Mars Colonialism to give their lives narrative connection.

in that exact auditorium room, i mean. it was actually the biggest room i'd ever visited as a librarian to that point. the setup was notably steep - vertigo-inducing. it was a strange session for Reasons, one of which was feeling exposed. anyways.
