📡✨ From 2017 to 2021, the Event Horizon Telescope has steadily sharpened its view of M87*, thanks to new stations like NOEMA and Kitt Peak. You can see the difference in the data itself — the coverage is richer, the quality stronger, the science clearer.

We can thus use it for something to search for process that break temporal asymmetry: for instance gravitational lensing when it is combined with doppler boosting: close to a black hole both have to happen, but they happen with different speeds, and thus leave a characteristic break in the timing.

in the astronomy context (there seems to be some useage of this in turbulence theory, which is however a bit different than our context). But other than that this - third order - structure function is also super useful because it ONLY senses the temporal asymmetry.

This sounds more difficult than it is, time lags are really just data point pairs in the original time series. To compute the structure function one takes square of the data point pairs and squares them. thus structure function is just SF(dt) = c x sum ( flux_pairs ) squared; where c is a norming.

This week we've published our paper on the first midinfra red detection of Sgr A* in the mid infrared. The black showed a flare, quite similar with the flares observed in the Near Infrared.

Instead, several "filaments" exist at larger distance from the central massive black hole. This gives rise to several intriguing questions? Are we looking at a single star formation event ? Or are we witnessing the remnants of an additional older, pre-existing star formation period?

Some science stuff :)
In this* study that we published back in 2022, I showed that a peculiar population of "young**" stars in the Galactic Center show a very complex orbital structure: they are not oriented in a single, disolving structure.

** young here means that they formed avout 6 Myrs ago
