there was a lot of tension building up for a long time now, there was a peaceful protest on Monday, and then the police shot and killed several protesters. This is what escalated the situation further, leading to the overthrowing of the government.

The protests aren't just about social media, though the ban was seen as an act against free speech and a push for censorship. The people are fed up with government corruption, misuse of public funds and oligarchs a living lavish lifestyle while everyday people don't see their own lives improving.

in the meantime the restrictions on other apps were lifted due to the wide spread protests. but it was too little too late, as the true reason for the unrest is the government corruption. this was just the last straw.
