Curious you finished with a mention of Rostropovich playing the Dvorak Cello Concerto. Did you come across the story of him playing that at the Proms the day after soviet troops had marched into Czechoslovakia in 1968? It's a potentially interesting bit of context for that line of Rostropovich's.
