It is difficult to find prospective comparative studies on many surgical interventions. I am working on a similar systematic review right now. Besides the issues relating to how problematic single-armed pre-post studies are, does anyone have any good references on when not to pool estimates?

I went to visit his plaque in St Peter's when I was in Adelaide for a conference. He must have left tourist attractions all around the world.

Review received this morning. Is this a weird sort of punishment for joking about Reviewer 2 last week?
Screenshot of text saying "2. Sentences should not begin with conjunctions such as 'however'."

I am an easy marker for oral presentations because i am always amazed that people can say the right words in the right order. I learn from reading so there's a chance i will mention "poison" distributions if you hand me count data.

They can, as long as they use terms like multivariate, Likert, Rasch, and utilise correctly.

I didn't know there was a difference between used and utilised. I just looked it up and now I'm definitely going to bring it up next time I am Reviewer 2.

We haven't got a publically available recording. @jonathan-bartlett.bsky.social might have slides he can share?

Will this happen in Australia when our age restriction laws come into effect in December?

Yeah, tricky to find rare events in RCTs. Our next CERA stats-in-progress meeting is on meta-analyses of adverse events, using ozempic as an example.

Nice work! It annoying that those new studies call themselves cohort studies. These retrospective administrative data studies with vague site info are hard to incorporate into evidence synthesis work because its not clear if the patients have already been counted in the other published studies.

Sometimes this is an indication that we could have communicated more clearly. If you are publishing in a clinical journal, assume a lot of the audience will need hand holding. Could follow term like dummy variable with "(i.e., an indicator of xxx)" to please reviewer and educate audience.
