Open Cluster
Open clusters of stars can be near or far, young or old, and diffuse or compact. Found near the plane of our Milky Way galaxy, they contain from 100 to 10,000 stars, all of which formed at nearly the same time. Bright blue stars frequently distinguish younger open clusters. M35, (Bottom ) is relatively nearby at 2800 light years distant, relatively young at 150 million years old, and relatively diffuse, with about 2500 stars spread out over a volume 30 light years across. An older and more compact open cluster, NGC 2158 ( Top right ) NGC 2158 is four times more distant than M35, over 10 times older, and much more compact with many more stars in roughly the same volume of space. NGC 2158's bright blue stars have self-destructed, leaving cluster light to be dominated by older and yellower stars. Both clusters are seen toward the constellation of Gemini.

NGC 2736 aka the Pencil Nebula or Herschel's Ray
NGC2736, aka the Pencil Nebula or Herschel's Ray, is a small section of the Vela Supernova Remnant approximately 800 light-years from Earth in the Southern constellation of Vela. It glows brightly due to ionised Hydrogen (red) and Oxygen (blue/green) where the shock wave from the supernova has ploughed into interstellar gas clouds. The original, violent death of the star which went supernova took place approximately 11,000 years ago.

Witch Hunt for Orion
Witch Hunt for Orion Captured over 2 nights from Grand Mesa Observatory, Purdy Mesa Colorado using the full frame QHY367C one shot color CMOS camera on a Rokinon 135mm F2 lens stopped down to F4. This is a 2 panel mosaic covering an area from The Witch head Nebula IC 2118 in the upper left of the image to the Dark Nebula LDN 1622 in the bottom right and it covers a whopping 15 degrees x 18.5 degrees of sky, big enough for the moon to fit over 550 times. Total Integration time just over 4 hours

Sol and Plane Photobomb
Something a little different today! This is a composite image of the sun, showing the surface detail and prominences, while being photobombed by a passing plane. The image was taken using an Altair GPCAM 290M with a 0.5x focal reducer, attached to a Lunt LS50Tha 600B PT solar scope. The image was captured using SharpCap Pro, pre-processed using AutoStakkert2 and Registax6, with final processing done using Photoshop CC.
