I've often been curious of that. I know most of us are aware, but what about the casual observer? I remember being disappointed that the auroras above my head in Tasmania now that I've moved here only exist so vibrantly on my camera. I feel lucky that I can see a muted version of them with my eyes

Ejection of accretion material. A whole bunch of matter spins around it, slowly but surely getting closer and closer, but sometimes that energy gets released before it hits the event horizon in incredible energetic bursts

Their immense gravity does mean they absorb and retain everything that passes the event horizon (point of no return, essentially) but if there is so much matter, it can't all fall into the black hole, it tries to match its rotational energy, and spins around it, creating its own environment
