I first showed up here while experimenting with decentralised/distributed social media software.

A few real-life friends are starting to show up now, though. Hmm.

AKA @FenTiger on the Fediverse, or Wrongfellow in a few other places.
Interesting when you consider that the sentence also includes the word "our".

"Well, your Honour, first he shot himself in the back of the head, twice, then he detached his own head, climbed the gate with a rope in his other hand, and..."

Next step: charge website operators a fee to make their links shareable for free?

Now, users are paying to share arbitrary links, large web sites are paying for more exposure via Facebook link sharing, and Facebook themselves become the ultimate arbiters of who gets the most referral traffic.

Cut out the middle man! I will follow anyone for just £5.

For £10 I'll even read some of your posts sometimes. It's a bargain!

Resolving "what they entered" to "what their identity is" rapidly gets tricky if you try to generalise it.

The self-verifying property gives you a lot of flexibility in how you answer those questions, though. It's possible to answer them in a lot of different ways without breaking the overall system. So you can start with something basic and extend it later - just like Bluesky are trying to do ;)

That's a relief. People were starting to get worried.

I take it I won't get the credit if I don't proceed?

"Locations of unlicensed beavers in England"?

I'm not sure I want to know.

Is this why dogs shed so much hair?

"My human can't take the cold; it needs fur!"

"But yet so far" because the remaining gap might be quite small, but I think it'll still take some engineering effort to cross.

Well, not really; I've been thinking this way for a while, but it was @zicklag.dev's article which prompted me to actually write this up and post it.
