I think I must have exposed myself to poison ivy yesterday. Treating it now with cortisone cream. The itching is driving me crazy!

Here I am, having delicious meals in Charleston, one of America’s great foodie cities. And then I find out my cousin is in the hospital. Just want to hurry home to see that she’s OK.

Magnificent weather for my drive through So. Carolina. Found the spot, near Beaufort, where the Emancipation Proclamation was first read publicly in a Southern State.

(Thu.,10/30): Sheraton in Columbia upgraded me to a small suite. How nice! Could have had breakfast in their elite, 16th floor lounge, but I overslept. 🙁

Another rainy-day. But before I drive from Chapel Hill to Charlotte, I had breakfast at the Carolina Coffee Shop, the oldest restaurant in NC. Their shrimp and grits (cooked with tomatoes, bacon, onion, garlic, and asparagus shoots) was one of my fav meals on this trip!

From the beginning of our English colonial period (Jamestown) to the end of that era less than two centuries later (Yorktown), all within an hour’s drive. Wow! But all closed now because of our government shutdown 🙁

Enjoyed spending time with Xavier today. Saw his apartment and got a tour of Hampton University. Then he showed me the airport where he takes his flight lessons.

(Sat.,10/25): Driving south to Virginia Beach, with a stop for lunch in Richmond where I stumbled into Cary Street’s Halloween festivities and enjoyed lunch at NY Deli.

(Fri.,10/24): A splendid dinner at The Red Fox in Middleburg, VA. The highlight: almond- encrusted rack of lamb with a pumpkin puree. Served in an elegant setting.

(Tue.,10/21): Almost went to Urgent Care during the wee hours. The only thing that stopped me was that I didn’t think I could make the 20 minute drive. Stayed in bed all day except for a quick trip to local pharmacy.

(Sun.,10/19): Attempted a short hike, but after about 1/2 mile, I had nothing in the tank. Too bad, because the weather was perfect.

(Fri.,10/17): I could feel a cold with its usually following deep coughing coming on, so I stayed off the trail today. But I did drive over to Annapolis to see a stage performance of “Annie.” Remarkable vocal performances by the adult cast members.

Lost my motivation to walk today. So I changed things up by driving up to Baltimore for a bit of whiskey on the waterfront and dinner at Baltimore’s oldest, though probably not its finest, restaurant.

Still hobbled by my strained Achilles tendon, but I managed to walk 2.3 miles (sidewalk, so easy- peasy). Light rain. Looks like nor’easter has passed us by.

Note to Self: Skip PHX for lounge access. Priority Pass, as is often the case, was totally useless. 2 hr after landing at BWI, I’m settled in my hotel room in Laurel, MD. So tired!
