A folding bike is fine for short relatively flat terrain, for longer hilly commutes, you need a road bike. That said, all bikes are great bikes. Whatever gets you from A to B...

I thought about that option but the risk of theft is too high. Plus I need a really good bike in Nancy because it is a 10km up a steep hill to my place of work. I ride a Bianchi Aria.

Good news.
I take my bike on a tgv ouigo from Paris Est to Nancy every week for work. I would appreciate not having to take it apart or pay a 10 euro fee each way to reserve a spot for it which really adds up over time for fréquent travellers.

I fully agree that teachers are underpaid however this comparisson of different countries is missleading. it doesn't take into account the countries' taxation systems nor their social welfare sytems or their cost of living.
