The head coach of Michigan clearly violating university policy is news. There were clearly multiple sources going back at least several months. The salaciousness seems to have spooked the media away from reporting actual news for fear of passing gossip

I would like the relevant media members to do some self evaluation of how they could better discern the difference between rumors and news as a result of this. But if I’m coming off as some internet clown blaming the media, I suppose that won’t happen

Well yes and no. I’m not blaming the media for the moral failings of the actors. I’m “blaming” them for failing to report or follow up on a widely known situation that in retrospect rose to the level of public interest. The prevailing wisdom was that to discuss this was to engage in rumor mongering.

In this case they were too concerned with potential slander, libel and rumor mongering and dropped the ball. I hope this spurs a reevaluation of reporting processes
