Aerosol scientist and mum. Not always in the particular order.
New paper alert! Using high-time-resolution PM1 data from three Central European rural sites, we examined local versus long-range aerosol sources and identified strong seasonal and site-specific contrasts, with implications for transboundary air pollution:

Stuck with your old-fashioned method for determining particle growth rates? Check the freshly printed #AerosolResearch article on the cross-correlation-based one!

A cross-correlation-based method for determining size-resolved particle growth rates
Abstract. The particle growth rate (GR) is a key parameter in aerosol dynamics and plays a crucial role in understanding atmospheric new particle formation and its effects. A fast, robust and reproduc...

Happy to share our paper on drone measurements of eBC and PNC in Czechia! Collocations with tower data highlighted the need of RH control, and rural vs urban comparisons showed season-dependent differences. For more details check: acp.copernicus.org/articles/25/...
Drone-based vertical profiling of particulate matter size distribution and carbonaceous aerosols: urban vs. rural environment
Abstract. The study presents drone-based measurements to investigate the seasonal vertical variability of equivalent black carbon (eBC) mass and particle number concentrations (PNC) at a rural and urb...

Having one supersite or a network of less equiped stations? That is the question we studied for aerosol source apportionment in a lignit area. More details in our new study!

Multi-site vs. supersite aerosol source apportionment in a lignite basin area
We investigated aerosol sources in Central Europe's industrialized and coal-mining basin using two distinct approaches: year-long offline measurements…

Canadian #wildfires were also detected in Central Europe this week. Mostly as fine organic aerosols and soot. In line with observations from #CopernicusAtmosphere AOD (atmosphere.copernicus.eu/charts/packa...).

If you are considering a BC monitoring network of small-scale filter-based sensors, you can find some tips here, in the new #AerosolResearch paper:
ar.copernicus.org/articles/3/2...
The applicability and challenges of black carbon sensors in monitoring networks
Abstract. Black carbon (BC) is a particulate pollutant emitted as a by-product of combustion. BC has an emerging role in air quality monitoring with the current recommendations by the World Health Org...

New study on the organic aerosol source apportionment at the rural background site Košetice by R. Lhotka from our lab. It shows that determining OA sources is still a challenge as the results show a rather oxidative state of aerosols.
