People are only going to realise this would have been reasonable after the fact (modest, even).

It’s on YouTube if you want to check it out, about queerness in other animals (and fungi).

Watching “Animal Pride” hosted by Queer FoS at QUT
A screen showing a movie. It’s an underwater shot of two Orcas.

What was “it” in this context? Or did they leave that bit unexplained?

This sounds really interesting. I’ve bookmarked to read later.

That sounds really interesting. I've added a bookmark for myself.

This sounds interesting. I’m putting a 📌 here to remind me to read it later

Yep. I ended up printing out some photos of idealistic science/maths people and sticky taping them to my wall next to my monitor. It’s my Live, Laugh, Love, and now I can’t ever read those people’s biographies lol

It seems we’re in the sweet spot— paper mills have discovered gen AI, but still not good enough to cite well. Maybe a sweep of everything in Ecological Indicators in the past few months, seeing as they seem to have been overrun.

It seems the LLMs/paper mill employees struggle finding relevant citations. Funnily enough, checking citation relevance is something a good quality LLM can do. This could be a way to filter and ID suss papers. It’d cost, but it could be done, I’ve done similar work with AI before.

“In order for a material to be used as an energy storage device, its phase transition must occur at a temperature that is equal to or higher than the thermal input sources [80].”

Can find no such statement, seems unrelated.

…They are useful for studies and strategic planning because they give a theoretical framework to determine the resilience of processes or systems [84].”

Paper cited mentions neither.

“Two conceptual models that have wide significance in comprehending and foreseeing system behaviors across varied contexts are Generalised Process Models (GPM) and Adaptive Resilience Ecosystem Services (ARES)….

Deusen’s other paper has at least one weird reference

“According to an exhaustive review of the US Department of Energy's database on worldwide energy storage projects [86]”

Reference 86: “The impact of battery energy storage for renewable energy power grids in Australia”

Are they sure “not the Christian Nationalist one”? Because that sounds very something nationalist-y

That’s some substantial changes. The new figures are completely different. What happened here? Do you see signs it was AI generated too?

… where scientists will shift more to interpersonal networks of reputation and trust, but administrators will still be judging us based on increasingly corrupted metrics.
