NEW: An NIH policy coming in the next week will target — and at least temporarily stop — funding outside the US, threatening thousands of projects and collaborations on topics like infectious diseases and cancer.

Some NIH staff have already been told to hold all subaward funds for foreign labs.

I feel *very* secure when Microsoft authenticator takes me to a window with a number and then opens a pop up on top of it asking me to type in that number. After face ID checks my face twice. So secure. So smart.

Devastating for scientists and their research, and everyone who benefits from that research.

I’m not sure if everyone outside academia is aware that a delay or “pause” in grant funding often means the researchers themselves are lost from the field, along with their expertise.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

There's a reason this place has been my favorite for years!
Happy 11th to All Souls, simply one of the best bars in D.C. We were delighted to stop in recently and find the spacious corner window booth unoccupied, then doubly delighted to see the “cocktail library” menu has expanded up to no. 45. (It stops at 43 on the website/QR code list.)
