The Quake3 hit sound is a modified Windows 95 musica sound scheme noise at a different pitch and with a little more bass/punch to it. The metadata was preserved if you don't believe me.

this hit sound also made its way into action man destruction x for some reason
i was going through my X archives and found this by @superpodsaga.com, which I qrt'd at some point years ago

so, let me bring the question back: what is the most useless piece of video game knowledge you know?

A false narrative is being pushed about GrapheneOS claiming we're ending operations in France due to the actions of 2 newspapers. That's completely wrong. If both newspapers and the overall French media had taken our side instead of extreme bias against us, we'd still be leaving.

My first thought at waking up to the massive rainstorm in Beirut today was that at least there won’t be Israeli drones flying all around Beirut today

Removed all of Cryspen's tech from my applied cryptography curriculum after students found it impossible to use hax, and Cryspen reacted to their attempts to write docs for it in a manner so garbage that it exemplifies the duplicity and elitism plaguing formal methods. cedarcrypt.org/nadim/applie...

Why on Earth would anyone invest resources in DoSing ePrint? Who wakes up in the morning and thinks, "boy, I sure would like to spend my money on making it slightly harder for a bunch of computer scientists to share and read PDFs"

Went today to a World Heritage Site: the place where the first netcafe I ever used to go to as a kid was. Used to log into mIRC name under the nickname smogon350 (Smogon was what Koffing said in the German Pokemon bootleg on my dad's TV), irc.dal.net, #leb and #harrypotter.

Now it's a gift shop.

My thoughts on the IACR election issue (since many have asked privately):

- This was an honest accident, and Moti Yung deserves being cut some slack. Yes, it’s a silly mistake, but mistakes happen.

- The IACR board reacted excellently and scheduled timely follow up elections.
