5/5 My thoughts are with the teachers who deserve respect, fair pay, and good working conditions.

The UCP gov must return to the table in good faith and properly fund our public schools. Alberta’s future depends on the success of our children — we cannot afford to let them down #ableg #yycglenmore

4/5 My thoughts are with the parents who are scrambling this week. My thoughts are with the children who deserve word class education and some who rely on meals and snacks offered at the schools. My thoughts are with children with disabilities.

3/5 Our teachers care deeply about their students and are doing everything they can to give them the education they deserve.

2/5 Last week, I visited every public school in Glenmore. In every conversation, teachers told me the same thing — this strike isn’t just about salary. It’s about overcrowded classrooms, impossible workloads, and the lack of supports for children with complex needs.

1/5 Wow, Calgary. You showed up.

You showed up for the children, for the teachers, and for our community. You showed up to demand a better future for Alberta — one where public education is respected and supported.

8/ And most importantly, how is the Premier caught off guard in this way? And will the Premier shut down the separation nonsense to bring back investor certainty in our province?

Albertans deserve an actual plan for Alberta’s economy #ableg
nagwanyyc.bsky.social
7/ The question is, what is this government going to do right now to support the 900 Albertans losing their jobs? What’s the government’s plan to prepare and re-orient this highly skilled labour force for the future?
nagwanyyc.bsky.social
6/ The UCP government has failed to act and prepare for the reality that is upon us. The sector is becoming highly automated and more efficient with the implementation of technology, which means less jobs available for Albertans
nagwanyyc.bsky.social
5/ In 2023, Suncor also cut ~1500 jobs in Alberta, citing the need for better financial performance and more efficiency. Imperial’s own press release says: “Leverages technology and global capability centres to deliver increased value” with “Expected annual expense savings of $150 million.”
nagwanyyc.bsky.social
4/ This Imperial layoff is not the exception; it is an increasing pattern. There are more mergers and consolidations in the oil sands sector, and the 2020 merger of Husky and Cenovus was a prime example that resulted in the loss of 2150 office jobs.
nagwanyyc.bsky.social
3/ It then continued with an unfathomable witch hunt on the renewables projects that practically stopped the growth of new jobs in that sector over the last two years.

What’s the plan here, Premier?
nagwanyyc.bsky.social
2/ How are the 900 Albertans going to find new jobs? Your UCP government chased away $33 billion dollars of investments in 118 renewables projects that would have brought 24,000 jobs.
nagwanyyc.bsky.social
1/ More than 900 Albertans will lose their jobs, and Alberta’s Premier is simply “disappointed” with thoughts and prayers for good severance packages?

Premier, that’s 900 families impacted once these workers receive the pink slip. Alberta has one of the worst unemployment rates in the country.

Last night, Bruce McAllister, the voice of this government, suggested a young student be beaten after daring to ask about education funding and the teachers strike. /1

Disgraceful conduct by Bruce McCallister at last night's Alberta Next Panel in Calgary. @abdanielsmith.bsky.social and her bullies have no place in leadership. Silencing and threatening a citizen is cowardly. Evan deserves an apology.

Despite having months to put forward a respectable offer, Danielle Smith chose chaos, cuts, and cruelty yet again.

In response, Alberta's teachers overwhelmingly voted to reject their deal.

Alberta’s Phase 1 COVID vaccine bookings are open but the portal’s a mess. It won’t let you explain why you are eligible under Phase 1 if you don't meet the age requirements.

Today, Albertans should be receiving Justice Wyant's delayed interim report into the UCP government's CorruptCare scandal.

Wishing the Jewish community in #yycglenmore and all of Alberta a beautiful and sweet Rosh Hashanah.

May it be a year of abundance, peace, and good health.

4/4 Instead of taking a page of the Trump policy playbook, the UCP gov should be strengthening TIER to enhance AB’s investment climate, capture fleeing cleantech investments from the US, boost innovation, reduce emissions, and most importantly, create thousands of jobs to help us grow again #ableg
nagwanyyc.bsky.social
3/4 Alberta has attracted billions of dollars of cleantech investment — thanks to its credible, principle-based approach to industrial carbon pricing. In one fell swoop, the premier and her ministers are destroying all of that.
Shedding a Tear for TIER
The UCP government weakens Alberta's industrial emissions-trading market, threatening private investment in pollution-reducing technologies.

2/4 While I do support companies to innovate and invest in their own facilities, this new option of "direct investment" is vaguely introduced without any standards or specifications.
nagwanyyc.bsky.social
1/4 Established in 2007, Alberta’s carbon pricing was the first in the country. The UCP government is now weakening Canada’s most mature carbon market, which will hurt investment and job creation.
