Women leaders reshape African governance
Staff Reporter PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has reaffirmed the need for inclusive leadership, stronger mentorship among women leaders, and continental cooperation on shared resources during a high-level Presidential Fireside Conversation held on the margins of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa. The dialogue brought together current and former female Heads of State, continental institutions, and global partners to advance peace, sustainable development, and women’s leadership across Africa. The event, themed “Beyond Barriers: Women Leaders Reshaping African Governance”, was co-convened by Namibia through its Mission in Addis Ababa. President Nandi-Ndaitwah shared the stage with former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in a candid exchange on leadership, resilience, and governing in spaces traditionally dominated by men. The conversation was moderated by Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda of UN Women. --- Photos: Namibian Presidency --- Speakers reflected on the journeys of women leaders who have challenged long-standing assumptions and reshaped governance across the continent, stressing that leadership is grounded in character, resilience, and service rather than competition, and can be exercised in all spheres of life, not only politics. President Nandi-Ndaitwah said that progress in advancing women’s leadership has not been achieved by women alone, acknowledging the role of supportive male counterparts who challenged outdated traditions and backed expanded leadership roles for women. She also underscored the importance of women supporting one another through mentorship and strong networks to sustain progress for future generations. Referring to the African Union’s 2026 theme on sustainable water and sanitation under Agenda 2063, the President warned that climate change is placing growing pressure on land and water resources. In arid regions, shrinking grazing land and competition over scarce water sources risk fuelling instability and conflict if not responsibly managed, she said, calling for stronger continental cooperation on shared resources. The session concluded with renewed calls for solidarity, inclusive leadership, and intergenerational cooperation to ensure Africa’s governance reflects the voices and aspirations of all its people. Captain Braveheart Erasmus puts spell on India-Eagles wants to soar at T20
India showed their batting class in their ICC T20 World Cup group A match in Delhi against Namibia, despite sliding from 205/4 (18.1 overs) to their total of 209 for nine. Captain Gerhard Erasmus led the bowling attack with an impressive four wickets for 20 runs as India were almost bowled out. India came out swinging. They racked up 86 runs in the Powerplay, with Namibia not quite hitting their straps early on. India were motoring along, and Namibia desperately needed a breakthrough late in the match. It came from skipper Erasmus. --- --- With his unorthodox off breaks and clever use of different release points, Erasmus disrupted the rhythm of the Indian batters. Ishan Kishan was the first of four for the captain caught by Shikongo on 61. Tilak Varma was next on the chopping block falling on 25 caught by Smith. Then Hardik Pandya bit off more than he could chew, bowled Erasmus, caught Dyllan Leicher on 52. The final Erasmus victim fell with Axar Patel, clean bowled for a duck, bringing up figures of 4 for 20 for captain Gerhard Erasmus, giving Namibia a glimmer of hope with a reachable 207 on the board for the Indians. Namibia However only managed a mere 116 against a relentless Indian bowling attack. The post Captain Braveheart Erasmus puts spell on India-Eagles wants to soar at T20 appeared first on Informanté.
