I agree it's deplorable what's happening to academic freedoms in the US, but with so many brilliant Canadian academics facing precarious employment I cannot fathom why we would rush to offer plum posts to Americans.

He challenged teachers to see that the values we define as uniquely Canadian -- democracy, health care, multi-culturalism and free speech -- come not from European heritage but from untold centuries of Indigenous education. Supporting each other is what Kanata (Canada) is all about. #bced

I studied under Fred Cogswell at UBC in the late seventies. He was truly a gentleman and a scholar.
