I read for the first time 3 years ago and I was *horrified*! It had been sold to me as a romance by pop culture all my life! Reading this book with that expectation was one of the most disturbing and discombobulating reading experiences ever.

WTF? No. This was just a very long string of excuses. It was not even an apology let alone a good one. He took no responsibility, he blamed what he said on his mental illnesses (i.e. he couldn't help it) and on being a different person back then (i.e. he doesn't have to take responsibility now).
