Secretly drugging your wife, without her consent — no consent, none! — because you had sex with, who the world's most notorious, child trafficking pedophile describes as, "russian girls"

is not at all okay.

It's near-white out conditions in Chicago as the snow comes down, and tonight's anti-ICE/CBP rally is wrapping up in front of city hall.

But not before the crowd bounces and chants, "I believe that we will win!"

At a loss for anything else to do with it, and impressed by Glatton's refusal to sink easily, the navy used Gorgon to test their latest explosive toys and then sold the battered remains for scrap.

One of the Royal Navy's more unusual - and oddly beautiful - ship classes was no more.

A bulkhead that it turned out was highly porous due to missing rivets, and stuffed with old newspapers and other inflammable rubbish by builders who apparently had no concern for the entirely obvious yet terrible effects of their decisions.

These days we'd put them in government.

And Gorgon also provided clues as to Glatton's demise.

Not appreciating that there was an ammunition magazine behind them, stokers had got into the habit of piling hot ashes against the dividing bulkhead.

Scorch marks inside Gorgon suggested it had come very close to a catastrophic fire amongst the ammunition. It's hardly a stretch to assume Glatton suffered a similar defect in both construction and operating habits, with the results we've already seen.

And with a 36km range there was a lot of coast to bombard. Monitors didn't usually pack much speed - bridges and fortifications rarely run away terribly quickly - but Gorgon could reach a handy 14 knots.

Now in fairness there were two major redesigns along the way.

It also needed rebuilding to the specifications of that least likely Sea Lord, Sir Mix-a-Lot. Although despite the physical evidence he somehow doesn't appear in the official record.

And the bite was great indeed.

So much so that when one of the 20th Century's regular unpleasantnesses with the Germans started in 1914, the Royal Navy lost no time sending the Norwegians their money back and swiping the uncompleted Bjørgvin and sistership Nidaros for themselves.

Very much pouring a quart into a pint pot, the end result was the naval equivalent of one of those pugnacious little dogs that celebrities like to carry in their handbags.

The barque was worse than the bite...

"But Dread," I hear you say. "Gun-laden barges are all very well in the Adriatic, but what if you want to perpetrate this sort of nonsense in a high-threat environment where submarines don't have to bring their own shovel to get to you?"

Well I'm glad you asked...

So to go back to the initial question, maybe Valente wasn't quite as mad as it initially looks - because big guns will never go out of fashion*.

No matter how they arrive.

*ok, they totally did thanks to missiles, send your complaints to the usual address

And if you're thinking "I've seen that turret before", rest assured I've been having the same thoughts and I think I've just got it.

It's the Temu version of this, innit?

A shame, really, as it's hard to imagine Nazi superweapon fanwankery surviving contact with anything quite like this.

Most were decommissioned after the Great War, but Faà di Bruno hung around. The Germans even considered recommissioning it and making it more seaworthy - admittedly a low bar - during the Second World War.
