Double doctoral celebration ⚛️🧪

Congrats to Dr. Marco Lozano and Dr. Alejandro Jimenez who both successfully defended their theses on many-body calculations and on-surface synthesis, respectively, in the past two weeks 🎉🎓🧑‍💻🔬

We wish them both all their best for their future endeavours in Spain!

Can you see molecular orbitals? Or are they really transitions? ⚛️ 🧪

Now in @jacs.acspublications.org, we urge for caution when interpreting STS experiments - particularly for polyradical open-shell molecules 🧲 👨‍💻 🔬

It was a pleasure to have Stefano Trivini visit us from @nanogune.bsky.social earlier this year - thanks for helping us learn about superconductivity in the lab and showing us some wicked serves on the tennis court ⚛️ 🧪 🎾

Looking forward to collaborating again soon 🤝
The experimental team at Nanosurf lab + Stefano Trivini gathered on the tennis court at the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

3 is the magic number 🧪 ⚛️

Now in @jacs.acspublications.org, we synthesise and examine a spin 3/2 ferromagnetic trimer featuring three delocalised pi-electrons ⬆️ ⬆️ ⬆️ 🧲

PhDone! ⚛️ 🧪

Congrats to Dr. Federico Frezza who successfully defended his thesis on light-induced chemical reactions on surfaces 💡🎓 🔬

We're sad that Fede's time with us will soon come to an end, but we wish him the very best for his next position in Florence 🍕 🍝 @maleminore.bsky.social

What better way to be welcomed to Prague for our new postdoc Federico Villalobos than a face-to-face with legendary Czech climber Adam Ondra 🧗‍♂️

Fede joins us having completed his PhD in @universidadgranada.bsky.social ⚛️🧪 Welcome Fede 🎉

📢 Bringing to light a new surface reaction💡

We imaged a stable, surface-supported nitrene synthesized through azide photolysis on Au(111) ⚡

we report the formation of a stable, surface-supported dinitrene achieved through the photolysis of a diazide precursor on an Au(111) metal substrate. We combine high-resolution scanning probe techniques with theoretical calculations, providing the first real-space imaging of a metal nitrene adsorbed on a surface and exploring the associated photoreaction mechanism.

What's the only thing better than one triangulene? Two triangulenes!
◀️🟰▶️ Check out our latest work just published in @angewandtechemie.bsky.social with @imdeananociencia.bsky.social 🔬 We look into the influence of dihedral angles on magnetic coupling 🧲

Triangulene dimers linked by one or two para-biphenyl units were synthesized on Au(111). STM, non-contact AFM, and scanning tunneling spectroscopy measurements reveal an open-shell singlet magnetic exchange coupling for Dimer 1 (ES-T=15 mV), influenced by the dihedral angles of the two para-biphenyl units. Dimers 2′ with an ES-T=6.6 mV were obtained from a more flexible precursor equipped with one para-biphenyl linker.
