More than 40% of the neurons in the FeCO are club neurons that encode low amplitude, high frequency vibrations. Are these neurons proprioceptive? exteroceptive? both? We turned to connectomics for clues to figure it out!
Left has an image of the fly. Right shows cartoons drawings of the axons of various types of mechanosensory neurons in the T1 portion of the fly VNC. There is the club which encodes vibration of the femur tibia joint, the claw which encodes the position of the femur tibia joint, and the hook neurons which encode directional movement of the femur tibia joint.

This is amazing! My biggest concern when my teen had to wear an actigraphy device was that it would be too uncomfortable for 2 weeks (luckily it wasn't). Radar sensors could make a huge difference for accuracy and comfort. Very grateful for your research, thank you.
