YEP. People definitely get addicted to the limelight. Especially in academia, where financial rewards may be modest... and attention is the coin of the realm.

It's worse than this article implies. Epstein focused on work highlighting the genetic basis of stuff. I'd call it genetic determinist- adjacent... veering into eugenic -adjacent...which supports his notion of inborn (mostly male) genius. Genes matter, but so do many other things.

Yep, we did know. Or, at least, the people accepting his money knew.
