Writer with stories in The Phare, Funny Pearls, and featured in Stroud and Bristol Short Story Anthologies. Immigrated from New England to Old. I work in secondary education. Inexplicably drawn to not entirely pleasant characters.
I wrote 2 festive flash pieces! Challenging but exciting.

A6 To query my finished novel The Gospel of Eve with ferocity, to finish half the draft of Cradle Pond Lists, to place at least 1 short story, and as always, to read at least 30 books in the year. #WomenWritersNet

A5 3/3 Writing, I try to capture what Leith Ross sings about. To celebrate lost moments while longing for them. They sing, ‘Grief is love run backwards, a great movie in reverse… I think I’ll love after I’m dead, and I’ll grieve while I’m alive.’ #WomenWritersNet www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_Mb...

A5 2/3 Home Bird (Fran Hill)for brilliant and funny detail selection, and love lay down beside me and we wept (Helen Murray Taylor) for bravery and dark humour and truth. But also, I want to shout out a song: Leith Ross’s ‘Grieving.’ Leith so well expresses the pain of time passing #WomenWritersNet

A5 1/3 Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow (Gabrielle Zevin) because it explored the creative process through game design, Still Life (Sarah Winman) because it celebrated art and relationships and was just so WARM in its character dynamic, Orbital (Samantha Harvey) for its beauty #WomenWritersNet

You're absolutely right, I just wasn't quite prepared and maybe the writing's not getting that much better, I'm just building my tolerance :) #WomenWritersNet

A4 2/2 I also went to a couple of writer talks at Stroud Book Festival: Alice Jolly’s book launch for The Matchbox Girl, which sounds fascinating, and a lovely talk from Elif Shafak, who’s so passionate about her work that I came away recharged. #WomenWritersNet

A4 1/2 I loved our discussion in October on Women Writers and the Writing Mindset. It inspired me hearing other writers’ take on essential writerly qualities. I joined Laura Besley’s NIF book club to discuss novellas-in-flash and found this form exciting. #WomenWritersNet

A3 It’s been a long time since I drafted a novel. I can’t remember how sloppy previous drafts were! So I look at the start of Cradle Pond Lists and think how clunky it is. Is that normal? I’m still not sure, but I’m writing it anyway and finding more ways to love it! #WomenWritersNet

A2 I had the surprising realisation that I don’t need to stress. Not about writing, or doing my day job, keeping the house in order or cooking, weeding, whatever. Because even when I’m sick, I always catch up somehow. Why was I panicking all this time? #WomenWritersNet

That's amazing. I'm so sorry you went through all that and really glad to hear you were able to get back into writing. #WomenWritersNet

Definitely one of my top reads this year! I'm so glad you're finding ways to continue promoting this. Now that the year draws to a close, how do you feel on balance about the process? Drained, or rewarded, somewhere in between? #WomenWritersNet
