But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.

How abt: calculate our federal taxes, send the amount to our state governments (if not toadying) w instructions: “please use to keep health care programs, schools, nursing homes, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. going; if the Federal Government starts to do its job, send remainder of funds to it.”
