Proud of @techactions.bsky.social for being among the first signatories to the People’s AI Action Plan— we need a tech agenda that puts the interests of workers and ordinary people first

Love seeing efforts like this to support academics impacted by NSF cuts 👏

In recent months the NSF has significantly reduced research funding. We're partnering with @sloanfoundation.bsky.social to launch a Research Rescue Fund, a citizen-led initiative to rescue societally valuable economics research.

When vast resources are funneled into one elite stratum, we risk underinvesting in the next generation of engineers and product teams. Nothing is sustainable about that (4/4)
nataliyan.bsky.social
We’re witnessing a seismic shift in Silicon Valley compensation: nine‑figure packages for a select few, funded by deep pockets and a fierce arms race for talent. Meanwhile, thousands of equally skilled engineers are facing layoffs as companies scramble to balance those towering costs (3/4)

When I commented “it doesn't make sense for engineers, no matter how experienced and with great credentials, to make NBA players' salaries,” I was pointing to a critical misalignment in tech today (2/4)

fellow nonfiction writers! if you're not currently saving EVERY SINGLE web page/web news story you cite to the Wayback Machine YOU SHOULD BE!!

no more dead links in footnotes!

no more dead links in bibliographies!

never ever forget how fragile the internet is—save internet history!

This October, the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine is projected to hit a once-in-a-generation milestone: 1 trillion web pages archived.

We’ll be commemorating this historic achievement on October 22 with a global celebration ➡️ blog.archive.org/2025/07/01/w...

Want to take part? 🧵 #Wayback1T

Bay Area friends, Gig Workers Rising is organizing a protest against surveillance pricing for platform-based drivers on July 1st in San Francisco ✊ 🚗

Surveillance pricing gives drivers NO transparency into how their hard work is valued. It's time for this practice to stop!

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.
