All three versions of NOSFERATU absolutely master the depiction of the long, perilous journey to the castle, just to get there, take one look at the guy and go "oh shit oh fuck"

Embry is deeply unsettling in it, not in an over-the-top scary way but (and I hate to say this given the circumstances of the episode) a very believable "guy you might actually run into on the street" kind of way.

The MASTERS OF HORROR episode INCIDENT ON AND OFF A MOUNTAIN ROAD features a creative choice I've always genuinely, deeply loved which is that we don't find out our two main characters' names until 30 minutes into a 50 minute episode.

Wrote about THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, which lasts because it does the impossible task for a film of authentically recreating how it feels to hear a campfire story, to be told a scary local legend that creeps into your mind and lingers there, for the first time. nbrehmer.medium.com/the-blair-wi...

If you want a book that does explain how he did it, I of course have but one recommendation.
"How I Did It" by Victor Frankenstein, book from "Young Frankenstein"

I'm going to wind up buying this because I'm simply too curious about the scientific annotations for a book that doesn't really go into *how* he did it at all.

I spied this on my timeline and was intrigued and now it's mine. mine. Mine!

Turned on FearFest just in time to hear the "What did I just say? Did I say there's a petting zoo in the basement? NO! There are GHOSTS in the basement" line in THIRTEEN GHOSTS. That's all I wanted.

Listen, it's a good remake, but I'm never going to stop laughing at TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE '03, a movie with Texas in the title, kicking off with "Sweet Home Alabama."

Finally wrote in-depth about one of my favorite tragically overlooked horror movies ever made.

The middle section of HELLRAISER: BLOODLINE, with the skyscraper built as a monument to Hell, and Pinhead taking root within it and slowly transforming it, could almost be seen as a loose adaptation of Clive Barker's "Down, Satan!"

2000s nostalgia is seeing SICK GIRL for the first time and being so sure that Misty Mundae was about to kickstart a huge, legitimate indie horror career that part of you is still waiting for it to happen in 2025.

Moderated forums/message boards/etc. were the only remotely healthy form of social media we've ever had and we simply must go back.

I wrote about one of the most unsung horror remakes. Savini's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD is a perfect end cap to the horror remake wave of the '80s and also features the most unsettling, authentically dead looking zombies I've ever seen on screen. nbrehmer.medium.com/tom-savinis-...
Tom Savini’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’ is a Perfect End to the ’80s Horror Remake Wave

Somebody do me a quick solid and buy me the $400 version of DRACULA that deconstructs the text into a fully immersive collection of physical diaries, letters, newspaper clippings and audio recordings.
Dracula: The Evidence, which turns each element of the text into an actual thing as if piecing together the evidence in the case.

THEATRE OF BLOOD is just so fucking good. Absolutely wild. Knows exactly how wild it is. One thousand percent in on the joke. I love this movie.
