A week later we’ve already reached 350 members, with more new members joining yesterday than any single day in our HISTORY.

The Government has recognised the state of Palestine but still intends to prevent councils divesting from complicity in Israel’s genocide in Gaza & their illegal occupation.

On behalf of @newhamgreens.bsky.social I’ve asked @rokhsanafiaz.bsky.social to demand Government protect our right to divest.

To the Mayor of Newham:

The Government is introducing mandatory pooling for local government pension funds. This reduces the freedom of councils to set their own ethical standards for investment. Newham must be able to divest not only from the arms trade but also from companies based in, listed in, or operating in Israel, whose taxes and profits sustain a genocidal government and the illegal occupation of Palestine - a state we have finally recognised. Local government divestment was central to the UK’s fight against South African apartheid and Newham residents and workers must have the same right today to ensure our money is not complicit in war crimes or human rights abuses. Government reforms must not block councils from setting local standards of divestment. Will you write to the Government and demand that Newham retains the right to divest on behalf of its residents, in line with international law and ethical responsibility?

We’ve voted against every budget and put two alternative budgets. We have called for the Mayor to resign. We’ve opposed them at every opportunity.

Nothing to see here, just West Ham Conservatives trying to pull the wool over Plaistow South residents’ eyes by not only avoiding any mention of the Tories on their candidate’s leaflet, but also impersonating the Greens branding.

And then falsely claiming we support Labour!

It’s also just clearly a lie that Greens are somehow backing the Labour council. We’ve voted against every budget, we’ve put two alternative budgets. We’ve called for the Mayor to resign. Our opposition is obvious in council meetings.
