I wrote down some of my favorite sentences from J.G. Ballard's debut novel, The Drowned World (1962).

A black pen, an open notebook and a paperback copy of J.G. Ballard's The Drowned World. The notebook is filled with paragraphs of hand block print, which are favorite sentences culled from the book.

Use a maqui's most powerful action and they may end up tied to a chair somewhere, coughing up teeth and secrets.

I contend with the evocative mechanical dilemma at the heart of Resist! from @saltandpeppergames.bsky.social in Episode 101 of Breakup Gaming Society.

Thank you, homie, and a big Starkville welcome to anybody else who trickles in as a result!

Well... this is what I get for devoting my energy to a dying industry. My department has been made redundant and I'm out of a job.

If you know anybody who's looking for an emotionally dysfunctional super-genius, tell 'em you know a guy.

Yes, the overlay of available maquis abilities and variance in target/garrison effects make the mission selection a lot more tense and puzzly than I expected!

*Roger Tankersley and Trevor Benjamin are also designers on Resist!

Coming up in just a few days: Episode 101, featuring my first plays of Resist! from @saltandpeppergames.bsky.social and a retrospective of David Thompson designs that conquered my table this year.

Cards from the Resist! game showing cartoon illustrations of four Spanish maquis — Manuel, Anastasio, Ricardo, and Sagrario — and a Spy at the back. Visible on the table beneath: A grid of cards showing available missions and the hidden military/police forces the maquis will face if they attack a given target.

From my ongoing work with Dwelling, a #solo #journaling #ttrpg from @goodluckpress.co

"I have some of the ingredients and none of the touch. But those wouldn’t be enough, either. I don’t have the infrastructure: The bower of Saturdays and people who would just appear in them, or me in theirs, while I was mistaken for sweet and bankable."

Appreciate your circling back to talk Sykes-Picot. And this post. As we say on the show, may you fight long and well.

I liked learning about them and am grateful to Walt for putting them on my radar.

Got a touch of orange and a fistful of ice for my second sit with Kansas City Whiskey.

Jumped into the recording room with @liberludorum.com and talked two TTRPGs that were too wild for the wusses at Itch.io — Burnout Reaper and Digital Angel.

A very happy one to @whovian223.bsky.social: Voracious player, voluminous blogger, con junkie and all-around swell pal and fun opponent.

Cheers, brother. 🫡

This was a wild one. A lot more blood spilled, partly due to my overstocking Andhra, which is a prime migrational path for the Rajas of Vijayanagara. Didn't realize until the final turns that I'd committed to a bloodbath that would let the Sultanate heavily garrison Delhi without fear.
