A lot of those green precincts are where the cops who don't want to live in Chicago, but have to, live.

The RTA in Illinois also includes Pace (suburban bus system). Did you account for that?

6.5hr layover in Buffalo, so there's some wiggle room.

If I could get my family and company on board, I would swing for the Lake Shore Limited - Maple Leaf train only trip. That's 21 hours, similar length to my City of New Orleans trip last year.

15 hours with a transfer in Detroit. Same as the train, with transfer to bus in Detroit.

Greyhound is about half the price of Amtrak for my trip. Something to consider, I guess.

I have to go to Toronto in March. And I usually fly Delta. I'm already getting worried about flying, but now... I may take the train/bus now even though it takes a lot longer.

IMO, the Lincoln Service should be free on Lincoln's Birthday.

And a 40 minute walk from where I lived was an area that was Pulaski-Sheridan, Peterson-Belmont. That's a tiny area to a suburbanite, but those that know, know how mind-boggling the quantity of stores there are in that circle.

It is like there is no room for differentiation. When I lived in the city I was walking to the local grocery store every few days. But once in a while, I'd drive to a bigger store to get some bulk items. Other times I'd take the bus or train to go to a store that has different selections.

I don't know what it is, but a gloomy day is the perfect train riding atmosphere for me.

17-yr old me wasn't mature enough to not call it the Cum-Tee-Dee...and that hasn't changed. But man, I used that bus system a ton. I miss living in a well-served community.

Did you think she was older or younger? It has been nearly 20 years since I saw her in concert at the UC.

Seems hard to separate C-U and B-N. Their cultures are too interconnected. I'm sure the Quad Cities are the same, but I don't have firsthand experience there.

Chicago-Toronto would be nice

Do as I say, not as I do. I live at an all way stop corner and less than 10% of the drivers actually stop. Of those that stop, less than 10% stop behind the painted crosswalk/stop line. Yet drivers will moan all day about cyclists not stopping.

I do not disagree with you. My answer was with respect to WW3. Any sense of being not close to WW3 has been a result of the unbalanced power dynamic of the last 30 years. I did not mean to imply that the world has been peaceful.
November 18, 2024 at 2:33 PM
We had relative peace for the past 30 years because the balance of power was lopsided in one direction. But now technology is so easily shared that power is distributing more evenly. Nevertheless, it is still capitalists that hold the power and wage war to concentrate capital for themselves.

Does it tell you when you get put on a moderation list or do you have to find out through the grapevine?

Maybe they meant gross as a unit, like 144 times.

4 days. That's how long it took to sign the Patriot Act into law. Day 1 - introduced. Day 2 - passed House. Day 3 - passed Senate. Day 4 - signed by President. 4 days.
