This erosion has revealed more of the chalk surface (barge bed) and a deposit of post-medieval material. The concrete foundations of the old beach stairs are also much more exposed, as are are a number of drains and a previously unrecorded jetty structure.

Except for the section nearest to Tower Bridge (covered by modern consolidation), changes were noted across the site. Erosion was most pronounced in the central section, particularly from Traitors’ Gate east, with much of the sand formerly deposited here having moved upstream, near Tower Wharf.

Last month a small group was granted permission by the Port of London Authority to undertake a walkover survey of the #TowerBeach: the team was interested to examine the remains of structures recorded during the 1990s-2010s & to collect any significant artefacts found on the foreshore surface.

Some very lovely treasures @cburycathedral.bsky.social in the Viewing Gallery for the ‘Eat. Sleep. Pray. Repeat’ exhibition - including the pilgrim tile excavated in the Cloister. It’s FREE to visit and you get a great view of the Cathedral too.

Great weekend in #Brighton & #Lewes for the @royalarchinst.bsky.social Spring Meeting! Huge thanks to our Meetings Secretaries for organising a fab programme & to all those caring for the places we visited for sharing their stories with us 🏰
The domed and highly decorated Brighton Pavilion Installation in Brighton Pavilion - neon lights in an ornately decorated room. The neon lights read ‘Brighton is still very gay and full of balls’ (an eighteenth century quote from a visitor to the town) Lewes Castle - a view from the path which climbs to the keep. Looking out over the Barbican gate and later house built looking into the inner court. The walls are of flint with foliage and flower and the courtyard is grassed over The interior of the bedroom at Anne of Cleves House in Lewes. The building is timber framed with the roof timbers exposed. There is a tester bed in the centre of the space.
