I think talking to and judging individual candidates is a good approach - particularly when party politics is so fractured and crazy.

Who do you think you will vote for?

Utter nonsense I'm afraid.

Again you're attacking the messengers. What matters is whether what they said is true. It's clear that almost all (perhaps all) of the Prescott criticisms are valid. I don't think anyone seriously denies that. That should be the story for anyone who actually cares about the BBC.

But I think focusing on Gibb *is* to miss the real issue - which is credible evidence for very real problems at the BBC. Attacking the messenger (Gibb isn't even the messenger really, it's Prescott and Grossman) is deflection and distracts from the real work to fix the BBC's problems.

.. that is, IMHO, the most concerning. A hugely important and contested area of public debate in which the BBC manifestly failed to be impartial. We need the BBC because we need an info source that can be trusted. When it's failed so badly on this topic it is a genuine crisis that needs fixing.

The part about the Trump Panorama is troubling, not because an editor made a stupid decision, but because when the problem was pointed out to senior leaders back in May they said there was no issue and took no action. But actually Trump is the least of it. It's the BBC's coverage of women's rights..

Dan, we both love the BBC and owe so much to it. But it's not helpful to it to deny real problems. It's the complacency over failings that's led to this and handed ammunition to its enemies. This is excellent from former Newsnight journo @hannahsbee.bsky.social www.newstatesman.com/politics/med...
The BBC is worth fighting for
The corporation must turn this crisis into an opportunity

Ian, you do realise this piece makes you look entirely deranged (though perhaps not in the tiny bubble that is bluesky)? Why does topic rot brains?
October 20, 2025 at 5:52 AM
Come to mine for coffee and a chat! (Might need a bit more than an hour though)
August 13, 2025 at 8:40 PM
Really? I read the piece I think you're referring to, and it's not anti science or anti vax. It doesn't even mention vaccines once. You should provide evidence if you're going to make accusations like that.

You're a communist. So I guess we're both guilty.
July 29, 2025 at 3:42 PM
May I suggest you read (or even better see a production of) The Crucible. Its relevance today is searing.

But this post isn't suggesting people don't buy the HP codenames (I'm not planning to either). It's suggesting all the publishers games should be boycotted. Buying regular codenames doesn't give JKR a penny. This kind of overreaction does far more harm than good IMHO.
July 29, 2025 at 3:24 PM
In what way have the publishers decided to side again human rights? They've made a game themed around one of the most popular IPs in the world. You may not like HP or its author but that doesn't mean a game featuring a wizard is "against human rights" in any reasonable sense.

Perfect 👌

Well done for demonstrating the genius strategy that has caused trans rights to lose so thoroughly.

Agree uk is mixed. And that poll clearly shows JKR is in the mainstream of public opinion across the broad range of issues in the topic.
