'Son of Prophecy: The Rise of Henry Tudor' has been selected as one of BBC History Magazine's 2024 Books of the Year. In ten years of writing medieval history, this is my biggest accomplishment. Thank you to everyone who has bought a copy 🙏🏽

On this day in 1401, Henry IV had a wine-loving Welsh landowner put to death in Llandovery. This is the story of how one brave man 'willingly preferred death to treachery’, for which he is commemorated today with a haunting statue. Available to read now. Link in bio.

Genuine guy eating full fish and chips on eastbound Central Line is WILD. Never switched carriage after one stop so quickly in my life. That's the kind of insane boldness that brings civilisations down.

Diolch London Welsh for allowing me to speak to you about Owain Glyndwr, "the sole head of the Welsh" as he was called during his lifetime. Until next time.

Tonight I will be in London Welsh Centre in the heart of London giving a talk 'Owain Glyndwr: Rebel, Prince, Visionary'. The talk is 7pm and there's a cheap bar with all your Welsh favourites. Everyone is welcome, Welsh or otherwise 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿.

Has anyone visited the French National Archives in Paris? I'm thinking of visiting Friday to see Glyndwr's letter but can't work out how to go about this.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Wales are playing England in London this week, so what better occasion than to be speaking about Owain Glyndwr in London Welsh Centre tomorrow night. Come and learn about the Welsh visionary who took the fight to the English crown.

I thoroughly enjoyed being part of Mathew Lyons's 'The Writers Bookshelf' series, delving into my reading past and present. And yes, I did love the Guinness Book of World Records as a child.

Warwick, as always you were a delight. An engaged and friendly audience who have sold out for me four years running. And we all agreed that Margaret Beaufort gets criticised for what her contemporary men get praised for and it's deeply irksome. See you next year?

Views from the TwentyTwo Tower are impressive 😯

Outrageous that vast amounts of topsoil (the size of 16 football pitches) from HS2 works have been casually scattered across the Edgcote battlefield. What potential archaeological discoveries have we now lost from this vital WOTR site?

No, migrants in London are not catching or eating swans BUT...since Swan was a highly savoured delicacy at the Tudor court, isn't eating swan...a good old English tradition? ONE SWAN PIE PLEASE, GUV'NOR.

I'm struck by this remarkable line of mothers and daughters, four generations of movers and shakers in a men's world - Katherine Swynford, Joan Beaufort, Cecily Neville and Margaret of York. To say these women left their mark in their worlds would be an understatement. More soon.
