'Son of Prophecy: The Rise of Henry Tudor' has been selected as one of BBC History Magazine's 2024 Books of the Year. In ten years of writing medieval history, this is my biggest accomplishment. Thank you to everyone who has bought a copy 🙏🏽
My 2017 book 'The House of Beaufort' has sold more than double all my other books put together. It tells the dramatic story about Katherine Swynford and her ambitious brood, one remarkable dynasty's rise and fall within one action-packed century. On sale everywhere now.

#OTD in 1499, Perkin Warbeck (or Piers Osbek, Pierrechon Werbecque, Piris Uberque, Peter Warbeck, Richard of England etc) was executed at Tyburn. But what of the final resting place of this enigmatic figure some believe/d was a Yorkist prince.

The view that both Richard III and Richard of England (I.e., Perkin Warbeck) were legitimate kings of England doesn't seem to be to me to be compatible with one another. Was Richard III right or wrong in making his nephew a bastard?

Tropical birthday cocktails with a clear terrace view of the Tower of London is the right way to celebrate 40, in my opinion.

Today is my 40th birthday. But it's also the anniversary of Prince Arthur's marriage to Katherine of Aragon, the match that heralded the dawn of a second Arthurian golden age. Below, I look at this remarkable union between the Houses of Tudor and Trastamara.

"odious offences" just doesn't hit the same coming after "homicides and murders, in shedding of infants blood". What odious offences do you think Richard III did that Henry VII's first parliament couldn't even mention? I reckon not using a coaster for his morning coffee on the new dining table 😡

What a huge thrill it was to debut my new talk 'Henry VII: Power and Propaganda' to a crowd of more than 220 people for Westminster Abbey. I'm told it's their record turnout!

Don't let anyone tell you Henry isn't one cool (or crafty, for that matter) king. Hardwork pays off 😁🫡.

Long before Edmund Beaufort and Richard of York became sworn enemies, they were young men working together trying to rescue England's weakening position in France. Today I look at the 1436 Siege of Calais when Beaufort made his military reputation and became an English hero. 🔗👆🏾

Pleased to report my talk on Wednesday for Westminster Abbey is sold out. This is a brand new talk looking at the shadier aspect of Henry VII and his desperation as a usurper to control the narrative.

Hopefully I'll get more bookings to take it on the road next year.

Henry VII's gold sovereign, a token of power and wealth, potent political and dynastic propaganda in the pocket. This Wednesday afternoon, come to Westminster Abbey to learn more.

Secured tickets for Sat 21 November 2026 to see Michael Sheen's long-awaited interpretation of Owain Glyndwr for
@welshnattheatre.bsky.social . As someone who has written books covering Owain and Henry IV, shall I put on a talk that evening in Cardiff? Any societies or bookshops interested?

#OTD, we remember Mary Jane Kelly, so brutally murdered in 1888. She, like all the Whitechapel Murder victims, are respectfully remembered in death still.

Sitting in a pub looking to complete my new talk on the Propaganda of Henry VII. I'll look at the illusory truth effect, how the more someone is exposed to a message, the more they believe it to be true. And Henry had a message he wanted spread.

And yes, I have a gingerbread man
