That's the likes of Boris Johnson out then! Most Asian and black people living in the UK are born here so they're fine. Just shows how, like most right-wing tropes, it doesn't stand up to rational analysis but is a slogan these people can latch onto without thought

Has anyone looked into the proportion of white people identified this way? I was expecting that most crimes would have that highlighted as most crimes by number are committed by whites but it doesn't seem to be mentioned when it's a white person murdering or raping someone. Is that right?

But ban on selling peat isn't scheduled until 2031 "when Parliamentary time allows". This is ridiculous, it's been years and it still hasn't been done. Good news on peat restoration and agro-forestry though which is expected to ramp up from 2026 - providing Defra funds are there!

4/4 How can this type of thing go on in one of the most important and beautiful areas of Scotland for wildlife? Releasing foreign species into this landscape and altering it in their favour should be criminal. And what predator control do they employ - are pine martens or wildcats welcome there?

3/4 Large buildings looked like they are used for breeding. CCTV and spotlights make it seem like bird Colditz. The estate aren't part of the deer management scheme for the Glen which is aiming to improve the condition of the SSSI but they offer stalking which indicates they don't want fewer deer

2/4 It gives guests a chance to shoot non-native live game to complete the country sports set but at what cost to the 10,000 acre estate in one of Scotland's top wildlife locations which is being rewilded. There are the paraphernalia of release pens and feed barrels and churned up paths to them

Steve Reed has talked about a Land Use Framework taking the uplands out of agricultural production. It sounds so much like your vision. Let's hope that Labour go through with it and don't get the willies and back down like with so much of what was in their manifesto such as a general Right to Roam

Wow, a great vision Tom. Would be a vast waterworld. The old Roman Car Dyke canal could link it to Lincoln and the Fossdyke to the Trent, then to the Humber. So much land that's been drained...

Well done again Guy. Fantastic research and brilliantly written, skewering those who say they are looking after our countryside and say us oiks should keep our noses out when, in fact, the self appointed "guardians of the countryside" are the ones despoiling and exploiting it

So sad to realise we've lost so much - in fact it was stolen from us. We should reclaim all the land that was enclosed and pay the landowners what they compensated the people with at the time - zilch! (Of course, with the accumulated interest on that included!)

Yorkshire Water have always mentioned that they can take supplies from Kielder reservoir but no mention of that this year - don't they want to pay for the water to ease its own reservoir supplies or is Kielder already too low?

Just one of the pellets I found today. There are all five British species of owl there as well as Kestrel, Buzzard, Red Kite, Merlin and more
