(I'm not here to talk about whether her plays are or are not really very feminist, whether she's too rich, or whatever other layers you might add. I can't speak to all that. Just, look at who it hurts and how it hurts, and who it doesn't and how it doesn't.)

I'm just saying it's interesting.

Of course, follow the truth where it leads, no matter who, etc. I'm just saying it's interesting that a feminist playwright's career may end, while doing all that damage and controversy in D-leaning communities across the US, while suspect number one obviously, *obviously* faces no repercussions.

I'm just saying, if someone wanted a grocery-store-level precision strike at liberal America, one where people will hurt each other with the best intentions and expend their energy preserving as much of what they love as they can, this playwright was as good a target as they could pick.

Half say: We don't do guilt by association.
The other half say: but fucking what about THAT association?

And this conversation will flow to every one of those spaces I mentioned. It's going to get awkward and not fun. Many will make a decision that will hurt their relationships.

And now, while the country resists a wave of brutality under the worst hypocrite any of us has ever seen -- who is himself the most-mentioned person in said files -- those theatres have to make a decision about where they are on one of the most-produced playwrights in the country.

In 2021, every theatre had to stand somewhere on whether to reopen.

Around the same time, they had to decide whether to keep putting up with skeevy old artistic directors, when people finally spoke up about the AD of one well-regarded theatre famous for being founded by a movie star.

And these spaces talk. They have a language and trends. They have politics. Play selection. What everyone wants this year. Controversies.

And these are mostly spaces that are politically liberal or left by nature. Mostly because understanding the art makes it hard to hold certain beliefs. Heck, when someone opens a right-wing theatre it makes the news; man bites dog. They have to reach to be *that* ignorant and still do theatre.

You may not realize how many there are. How much theatre there is. How it connects people. A *lot* of people. It's what it does.

"Hast Thou Considered The Tetrapod," by The Mountain Goats.

Only five words, but one of them is "tetrapod."

I made it all the way through The Filth once. once.
