ICE just blatantly violated the law and arrested sitting Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes while seeking to illegally arrest a patient in a hospital. Fuck these fascists.

Correction: Councilor Boots adds from Evans, "I wanna see $90mil for suburban areas & parks," & that we need to start working to make lemonade out of lemons to improve the quality of life in the city while we aren't currently receiving that kind of funding.

Correction: route was meant to be root both times here. My accent makes those words homonyms & I didn't catch I had used the wrong one there whoops!

Councilor Evans continues to reiterate that for the five years he's been on the council, he has heard that we have to address crime & the route causes and parks helps to address those root causes. He praised the efforts being put in by the forest advocacy groups

The budget has been taken to a vote & has been passed unanimously. However, Councilor Evans reiterates that while he is voting yes, it is reluctantly so when we are not actually funding this department enough.

Jeff also said, "I bet you if you polled the residences of Indianapolis & asked if they wanted a soccer stadium or more parks, I bet they would choose parks", but that we're not currently doing the outreach to even really know.
nav-indydocumenter.bsky.social
Jeff Stan states there needs to be a city wide discussion on not only funding the parks department but truly addressing the lack of willingness to budget it in the first place.
nav-indydocumenter.bsky.social
Our first public comment tonight urges that we should seek other opportunities for funding this department, such as a wheel tax, as it is in dire need of that funding."Any man that has profited from this city should give back to this city"

We are now proceeding to public comment on this proposal.

Parks Chair Crone says that they are putting together a review team to try to see what areas they can increase efforts for furthering revenue or decreasing costs.
nav-indydocumenter.bsky.social
Councilor Boots urges that we should really work on increasing revenue as we need more money to provide for the services for parks & arts in our city. He is asking how we could increase that from Indy Parks perspective when we are seeing less money from the state?

Councilor Delaney is inquiring about the Holiday Park updates, & Parks Chair Crone conferred we are likely to be announcing a ribbon cutting ceremony by the end of the month.

We're starting out tonight by hearing from Brittany Crone, Chair & Interim Director of Indy Parks, with a quick recap of some of Indy Parks successes, as well as reminding that Fall Program Registration is now open for programs from our parks.

Indy Parks is looking at slight decrease from last years’ budget, but councilors, some members of Indy Parks, & many members of the public expressed that that our cities’ needs for our parks exceeds that as of last month’s budget presentation as well.
nav-indydocumenter.bsky.social
Today’s meeting is dedicated to budget review for the Parks & Rec Committee, but folks might be surprised by what all that includes; like the art budget, proposed at $1.3 mil by the Indy Arts Council back at the Sept. 4th meeting, only 0.07% of the city’s total budget.
