🧵 1/5: I'm THRILLED to see Jiří Vnouček's paper on the Hamburg Bible's parchment finally published with such stunning illustrations (73 in all)!

This research shows how a careful reading of parchment tells a rich story of its creation.

I used to say “humbug” about Coelacanth Discovery Day, when a fish that had been presumed extinct since the time of the dinosaurs was found alive in 1938, but last night I was visited by the spirits of three coelacanths who showed me, um, a variety of fish-related things, and now I’m a big fan.

... but, thrilled to join Managing Board of @pciarchaeology.bsky.social, a free, transparent platform for research recommendations.

Join a community of scholars making science more open & accessible! 🌟
#OpenScience #Archaeology
A webpage section showing social media icons for various platforms including Bluesky, Mastodon, LinkedIn, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and RSS, followed by a 'Managing Board' section listing nine members of PCI Archaeology's board including Alain Queffelec, Marta Arzarello, Ruth Blasco and others, with a 'Recommenders' link at the bottom.
For the position statement:
I am joining the managing board as I believe PCI Archaeology because represents a transformative approach to academic publishing in archaeology. Launched in 2020, it's a community-driven initiative that provides free, transparent peer review for preprints, breaking down traditional publishing barriers. As someone committed to open science and equitable knowledge sharing, I value how PCI Archaeology makes high-quality research accessible to everyone - from established academics to early career researchers and interested members of the public.
What excites me most is their transparent review process - all reviews and recommendations are openly available, helping to demystify peer review while maintaining high scientific standards. There are no fees for authors or readers, which is crucial for making archaeological research more globally accessible.
By joining the Managing Board, I hope to contribute to building a more inclusive and sustainable model for archaeological publishing, where quality research can thrive without financial barriers.
