I don’t even know how they could more forcefully assert that they don’t care about human lives — but ESPECIALLY don’t care about the lives of the poor and minorities most affected by industrial pollution — than to rewrite the cost-benefit calculations to explicitly set the value of those lives to 0.

Yeah to say a bit more if a mayor doesn’t think they can order police to confront ICE because the police are disloyal to their democratic representatives then a mayor should say that outloud instead of pretending it’s a firepower issue.

I think the more important question here that no one is asking (or wants to ask) is: would cops even be willing to arrest their buddies? And if they refuse, what does that mean? And if they agree, do we now have a war between different state and federal militarized US agencies?
This is a bullshit answer. With very few exceptions the ICE guys do not want to die for this regime. Conceding the law to the imagined threat of violence is asinine. If “your” cops feel this way that’s their problem, too.

Many of those who complain about mining for batteries / solar / wind power have curiously never raised a squeak about the far greater extraction required for fossil energy. Funny how they become concerned about the planet only when fossil fuel interests are threatened.
