When you pass judgement on the severity of catastrophe, you’re putting yourself in a position of judge. That’s not our job. Our jobs are to be compassionate, support, find solutions. We need to be better neighbors. Start with yourself.

They should be filled with curiosity as to why these things happened and how we move forward with wisdom and not accusations.

High mountain reservoirs are human built, and could’ve been situated differently. Los Angeles should have never been built as it is - in its natural state it is a desert.

Comments shouldn’t be about which one was worse. People have lost everything. People have lost their lives. Our comments should be filled with compassion. They should be filled with a search for solutions to our increasingly volatile climate causing massive weather shifts.

These are not wildfires. These are urban fires in residential areas. Hurricanes Helene wasn’t just a hurricane, it was massive flooding from inconceivable amounts of rain in steep terrain, toppling mountain reservoirs.

My heart is hurting as I see people try to create division, saying one of these is worse than the other. People’s lives are shattered, people have died, people lost pets, people lost everything in both places.

If you’re partaking in this perpetuated division, why?
